Hillyers Waverley Ltd - spelt & honey bread
- Spelt is one of the oldest cultivated grains going back to 5,000 BC.
The grain itself
has a very tough husk which is expensive to mill, however this husk helps retain its nutrients and protects it from insects
and disease so growers can generally avoid using pesticides. High in fibre approx 4.7% compared to 2.6%
on standard white. High in carbohydrates and proteins - 14% compared to 8.5% on standard white. Some
gluten-sensitive people have been able to include this product in their diet.
